After all of the hard work my team and I will put in sanding your floor, a process that can be seen in detail by clicking on the floor sanding and wood floor restoration links, we will then begin the process of the finishing.

Our years of experience will guide you through the numerous finishes available that meets your requirements and suits your taste and interior design.

How you decide on which wood flooring finish, depends on many factors. Firstly you need to decide what type of finish you like shiny, silk mat or mat, clear or stained. Secondly what type of sealing agent you would like, oil or varnish, Diamond glaze, Movacs…

Shellac

We usually use Barrier Seal shellac as a primer and surface preparation for its high insulating qualities

Staining

If you are a client looking to give your wood floor a completely new and reinvigorated look, staining is the option for you. This process is most effective when applied to pine and oak floorboards, there are a whole host of stains to choose from that will aid you in creating a brand new look for your home without having to replace the whole floor. Whether it is light oak to a rich mahogany stain, the options are endless.

In order to achieve a perfect finish the wooden floors would need to be sanded to at least grit 120 or even 150 in some cases. Thus the colour would look natural and even.  Because each batch of wood is different from one to another, instead of showing you pictures of different finishes, we prefer to sample on your floorboards a variety of finishes for you to choose from. Each finish is hand applied using only the best stains, oils lacquer and paints from highly regarded suppliers to ensure a surface of exquisite quality.

Varnish

Varnish is considered more durable less maintenance but prone to scratches which requires experienced person to repair. Varnish can only be effective if using top end of the market such as Bonakemi, Junkers strong hold or high performance. It comes in silk matt, matt and gloss.

Oil or hard wax

The advantage of oil is easier to repair, by simple process of light sanding or buffing then oiling. However it needs more maintenance than varnishing by means of buffing and oiling every two. years or so.

There is nothing quite like natural beauty, whether you are looking at a sunset, a beautiful woodland or the natural beauty that comes from expertly manicured wood flooring. To ensure the best job is done, we only use hard wearing, environmentally friendly and durable floor sealants with Matt, Satin and Gloss finishes.

We don’t like the odour of chemicals just as little as you do so the process produces very little odour during application and while it’s drying. You’d almost think we weren’t there at all!
